French farce at bedtime

I mentioned yesterday that my new ladies go through a ridiculous rigmarole when going to bed and the whole process can take quite some time. Mr D, having nothing better to do with his time, decided to video the French farce that is my ladies retiring last night, so here is the resulting video!

It's very silly and fairly pointless, but may make you smile :)

We're off to France for the weekend later with four good friends, so I've made a spiced pumpkin cake with cinnamon frosting, chocolate sponge with salted caramel sauce and a loaf of le Pain Montmatre. It seems criminal taking bread to France, but along with the home made jams and marmalade, it will make a nice breakfast tomorrow morning so we don't need to rush out to fetch croissant. I have also snuck in a bottle of limoncello, although I draw the line at taking wine to France!!

A la semaine prochaine - gros bisoux a tous xx

  1. How funny (if frustrating for you!) - they just can't seem to make up their minds can they?

  3. Oh they are so funny aren't they! At one point I thought they were in....until I saw a little head peeping out. Their run looks very nice for them as well. Don't know anything about keeping chickens at all but they look happy. I hope they start laying for you. Enjoy your trip. (Mrs LH)

    1. Yes, EVERY night! Just as you think it's safe to go down there and shut them in safely, half of them trot back out again! Silly girls!

  8. Great video.
Are they suppose to go in by themselves at a certain time ?
If I lived in such a pretty space like that I would not want to go in right away.

    1. Generally speaking, chickens take themselves to bed as it gets to dusk - it's an inbuilt safety mechanism, but my previous brood weren't as indecisive as this lot!!

  10. Mine are very similar at bedtime ..... I've wised up and just go out when it's almost dark, otherwise when they hear me coming even if they are all in the house, the bl**dy lot of them troop out to see if I've got anything tasty with me!!
