Shiny kettle

Quite some time ago, my electric kettle started leaking, so I resorted to my stove top one. I love it! There's nothing cosier than popping the kettle on the stove and waiting for it to whistle. It takes quite a bit longer than an electric kettle, but I like the fact that I have to wait. In fact, in the mornings, Mr D can pop the kettle on, then take a quick shower and get dressed before it's boiled!
As you can imagine, it gets a lot of use and I was a little ashamed this week when I noticed just how filthy it was!

Before

So out came the bicarbonate of soda, made into a thick paste with warm water and rubbed on to the kettle. A LOT of elbow grease later, I now have a shiny kettle again. I scrubbed out the inside too, so it's just like new again :)

After

I might just have to have a cuppa now to celebrate.

I've decided to give myself a mini makeover this morning, so I'm dying my hair - say a temporary goodbye to the badger stripe - and then a doing a pedicure and manicure. I very rarely pamper myself so it will be a nice treat. Especially seeing as my back feels trampled on - physio again yesterday. You'd think she may have spotted that my fists were clamped and I had stopped breathing and eased off a little?!

  1. Oh dear, you do need some pampering! I hope the physio gets easier and helps the back problem. I'm having my first ever course of acupuncture next week, hoping that will help with my damaged nerve and the lack of sleep caused by the pain constantly waking me up. The kettle does look shiny, you must have worked hard on it.

    1. I guess the physio knows what she's doing?! I'll be interested to know how the acupuncture goes and I really hope it helps you. Long term niggly health issues are so draining!

    1. One day....
It took a lot of elbow grease, so I will try to do it sooner next time :)

  3. With all that pampering you'll soon be as shiny and polished as the kettle, which is fabulous by the way. X

    1. Ha! I painted my nails, but am now so unused to it that I didn't like it and removed it straight away! I'm not sure I'd qualify in the 'looking polished' stakes! :)

  4. We use a gas hob/Rayburn kettle too, like you say the whistle is very cheery

  5. The kettle looks brilliant, our Aga kettle is cream coloured and the one that sits on the log burner is matt black, so no polishing for me ... phew!!

Your physio sounds like a torturer .... does it have a good effect afterwards?

    1. If not being able to lean back on my finding room chair or lie on my back last night is a good effect then YES! It's a bit better today, but still feels tender. I half expect to see bruising on my back! She tells me she needs to go in hard to break up the knotted fibres.....
If I ever buy another kettle, I will certainly go for a coloured one. Hindsight is a wonderful thing :)

  7. It's really unbelievable! The before and after photos is my favorite part of doing something. Then the work is better seen. Thanks for posting this! What did you use as a cleaning substance, by the way?
