I have a ridiculous list of jobs that need doing and yet haven't managed any of them. I do get so cross with myself!
Fortunately though today, Mr D and myself have had a really good sort out of the sheds. They now actually look like a useable feature of the house rather than a rubbish tip at the bottom of the garden.
We got rid of quite a bit of stuff already, but there's a lot more to go yet! I was obviously a plant pot hoarder as I had a stupid amount down the side of the shed. I've kept a number of smaller ones for potting on and the 9'' ones that fit inside my white porcelain plant pots, but the rest have now gone off to the tip. There must have been hundreds :(
I fear the shed is my worst area for 'clutter' I definitely keep all sorts of random items because they might be useful. Of course, they often are useful and over the years my stash has saved us lots of money, but it had definitely got out of hand so I'm very pleased with what we have achieved today.
You will no doubt be wondering why the heck we have letters on the shed. For some reason, which I now can't really remember, we thought it would be fun for our 18 month old when we first moved in (she's now 23). The shed is actually constructed from metal plane parts. One of the chaps who lived here some time ago worked at Vickers aircraft factory. It's certainly lasted a lot longer than a wooden shed would have.
This is the open fronted section of the shed. Other than my potting bench on the left, this area is used almost entirely for storage. Those blessed golf clubs have been used about 4 times in the last 15 years.....
Now, I just need to tackle tidying up the garden which is looking very sad indeed :(
How wonderful to have that much storage space. But I fear I'd fill it up, I'm a great hoarder.
ReplyDeleteBefore we cleared it, it really wasn't much use to anyone as you couldn't find anything in there! The roof leaks, but I'm hoping to get away with moving before we have to replace it....although with this weather, it's suffering rather!!
DeleteWell done, it all looks very neat...especially for a shed! And you're brave, I wouldn't set foot in ours (far too cobwebby).
ReplyDeleteOh you would have hated it then - cobwebs strewn everywhere! I took the broom to them - nothing alive though!
DeleteI miss my large brick sheds from the cottage in Tydd but after emptying them to move I never want another huge space to fill.
ReplyDeleteI dream of one of those tool walls where everything has its place and is instantly findable, but no doubt the reality would be a big mess most of the time!
DeleteI need to build a shed. Won't be out of old aircraft parts though. My dad was an aircrat fitter though and I did have a big plane inner tube to bounce on in my garden as a child. x
ReplyDeleteEveryone needs a shed! The trick seems to use the ceiling and walls for storage too, which would be easier on a wooden shed. We tried to fit ours with a padlock but nothing would drill though it!
DeleteA shed is a great storage space and I don't think your alone with the amount that's kept inside :-) Your pots sound like our terracotta ones we have lots and lots and lots and we found some more at the back of one the wood sheds the other day not that we can get to them yet but I have inherited most of them that's my excuse :-) Have a lovely week and good luck with the garden the weather is terrible here at present. dee x
ReplyDeleteI didn't have many terracotta ones - those I would definitely keep! You seem to have found some lively treasures in your new home :)
DeleteWeather is now terrible here too :(
well done on the shed. I also would have been scared of finding huge spiders. you have a lot of useable floor soace there to move around a futre craft room or man shed.
ReplyDeleteThanks. I've read your posts about preparing a house for sale - very informative and helpful :)
DeleteI have 2 more. they both need finishing! Dont you just love the draft mode!
DeleteMy shed is an absolute disgrace. As soon as the weather is a bot warmer I am planninga major cuck out of junk. Believe me when I say it is junk cos I can and do re use pretty much everything
