The biggest room in the house

I must have been on a roll yesterday because once I'd done the lounge, bathroom and conservatory, I carried on to tackle the kitchen/dining/family room. This is the room we spend most of the time in so it gets the most wear and tear. I have decluttered the kitchen worktops and dresser, removed the CD shelves and over 400 CDs - I had only just put those shelves up, but decided the space looked better without them. I have also scrubbed all of the kitchen cupboards inside and out, cleaned the windows, cleaned the oven and washed down the walls. I would still like to sand down the worktops and re-oil them, but ran out of steam by the time I'd done all of the above!

Jet's settee. I will probably remove the covers for a viewing.

We've had some wonderful meals around this table! We originally had a six seater, which is still in the shed. We have been known to put them both together diagonally across the space and have Sunday roasts for 13 :)

When we first moved in to the house, there was a galley style kitchen extension where the kitchen is now. We extended out to the right to make this square L shape. It completely transformed the way we lived! We have always liked to eat together (I did as a child) and making this room so much more inviting really enhanced that. I would certainly like a kitchen you could eat in in my next house.

Thank you for all the lovely comments about the house. It's been really encouraging :)

  1. It is all looking lovely, well done on your hard work. We can attest to that having done the same to sell each parent in law's house after they died. Also helped DS and DDiL do their house.

    1. Yes, it's not that long since I did my Mums house, but at least that hasn't got anyone living in it to make a mess again! Not sure, I'd ben wanting to do it again in a hurry though after doing mine!

    1. Thank you. No not yet, we need to book some time to go and have a look at a few. I wouldn't be surprised if we didn't end up renting for a while instead, but we'll see...

    1. Thanks - it's not the house, more the location and size of garden. I want more space and a view that isn't someone else's lounge or bedroom!! My opposite neighbour is way too old to be wandering around naked :(

  5. It's all looking really nice, you've made excellent use of the space in that wonderful family room. This is the room that will most likely sell the house, it's a very 'now' way of living.

You make me feel tired just reading about what you've been doing recently. I hope it pays off with a quick sale for you.

  10. Well staged home! You have done such a beautiful job. I am sure it was a lot of hard work. Well done! Yes, the sea and it's elements influence your colour and design choices. Your signature style can be seen in each room's detail. Even Jet's sofa looks like it's from a seaside cottage.

    1. Thank you. I grew up by the seaside and love being near the sea. Unfortunately I don't like being on it much as I get very sea sick!
