Le Pain Montmartre

During my daily blog trawl, I came across this recipe on Mortgage Free in Three http://mortgagefreeinthree.com/2015/04/le-pain-montmartre/#more-14204 for a rustic style bread which only takes and hour from start to finish - brilliant!
I love making bread, but sometimes it can seem like half a day goes by in the making of it, what with kneading, proving, allowing to rise etc etc. I was very excited to try this one then...

Verdict? Super easy, only took an hour as promised, soft centre, crusty outer and nice flavour. Slices well too. Obviously it is neither vegan (honey) nor gluten free.

We had it with a bean casserole, which I like in a bowl with a sprinkle of grated cheese on top.

All in all, a tasty, simple and frugal meal :) Thank you Elaine at Mortgage Free in Three for a great bread recipe.

  1. Definately going to have a go at bread, if it works for me it must be easy. The bread and the casserole go great together, simple, cheap and satisfying.

    1. Have a try with this one - it makes a dense country-style loaf rather than lighter French Stick style bread which is harder to achieve. You can feedback on how you get on!

  2. I cheat and use a breadmaking machine. I didn't have much joy with a cheap one I bought from a supermarket but now I have a Panasonic again (I had my previous Panasonic for 10 years and it was used nearly every day). I use it most days and the bread is always a success and is so quick and easy to make. For some reason, I can't tolerate most shop bought bread or cheap bread flour - I think it may be the raising agent or flour improver. Your loaf looks lovely and is a cheap meal when served up with soup or casserole.

    1. I have a Panasonic bread maker, but I hardly ever use it, preferring to do it by hand. Perhaps I should alternate?
