Who stole my mojo?

I think I've caught the doldrums from Dawn (doingitforourselfsinwales on my sidebar)!!
I have so many projects I want to get started on - sewing, knitting, crochet and other craft projects. Have I started any of them? NO!!! I haven't even had a go on my sewing machine. I taught myself the basic knitting stitch in the Autumn, but will have forgotten it again before I actually try to knit something! A friend bought me a starter crotchet set for Christmas - I had a brief (fairly unsuccessful) stab at it and haven't tried it again.
Some time ago I did a post with a list of jobs to do around the house. I made some headway early on, but haven't done a thing on it since. I keep justifying it with the thought that if it's going to be at least a year before I can move house, I might as well leave them until nearer the time or they'll no doubt need doing again.
Excuses excuses!

I can't quite fathom why I'm procrastinating, but I certainly am! I'm still doing all the jobs that need doing - cleaning, washing, ironing, gardening etc BUT I can't seem to muster the enthusiasm needed for my projects. They'll wait I guess, but it's not my normal modus operandi, so I am a little perplexed as to what has caused my mojo to desert me.
I do wonder if it's a natural reaction, and therefore a passing phase, to me having given up work to be at home. I worked in a busy office with nine people and hundreds of needy kids coming through - it was noisy, stressful and very demanding. Now I have only the chickens to talk to a lot of the time and my life is quiet, undemanding and a lot less stressful. Perhaps I'm going through an inevitable period of adjustment?

No doubt the missing mojo will return at some point and meanwhile I'll try not to berate myself for having 'lost' it in the first place!!

And just for Jan at The Great Escape, here is a photo of the spiralised courgettes. My eldest daughter made this meal with her spiraliser, but she and I had eaten all of ours before I saw Jan's comment, so I had to snap second eldest's plate as she is a slower eater!! Sorry! The sauce was tomato based with added onions, peppers and some of the courgette core (the rest went to the chucks to scratch over). A very healthy and lightweight alternative to pasta and of course naturally gluten free and vegan! The spiraliser came from Amazon at a cost of about £25/£30. Cornish Chickpea also has examples of spiralising on her blog, which she photographed before digging in!

  1. I a sorry it went viral I thought I was safe in isolation on my welsh mountain, did you snuck in under the cover of darkness and become contaminated :-)
All those crafts you mention are skills that will do you well when you do move forward with your dream, making clothes and gifts is a step in the right direction away from consumerism, while waiting for your mojo to return grab yourself a note book and write down lots of ideas of things you can make, go for walks and learn to identify some of the plants growing around your area and note were to use the and how to use them.
Dont beat yourself up over it, it will pass watch some rubbish on tv, have a bar of chocolate spoil yourself with a pampering session it will pass :-)

    1. I wasn't really blaming you! To be honest, it's a comfort to know that it happens to everyone even if you are living the life you have dreamed of and planned for!! I ordered a little pocket 'food for free' book from Amazon which arrived yesterday, so I'm going to start trying to identify what's out there on my normal walks. I need to pick some nettles to make plant food for the tomatoes first and I don't need a pocket guide for that job!!

    2. How lovely you have your little book I have that one too, I meant to add before moved in July I worked full time running my own craft shop and it has been a period of adjustment, I closed the shop in November and there was a period of empty nest feeling I am only just starting to deal with the stock left from the shop I really dont want to deal with and have been procrastinating for months but now I am sorting it and making headway I feel better about it, we are all good at putting off tasks but when we get stuck into them you do feel better as it no longer niggles you :-)

    3. Yes I think I might start with the tasks as they are 'concrete' things and then hopefully when I make progress with those, my missing mojo will return!! X

  2. Sorry you're feeling a bit down at the moment. I have those days too but I blame mine on hormones as I am 51 this year and not yet gone through the menopause so I blame this! Prior to me giving up work last October I had plans coming out of my ears regarding all the little jobs and things I was planning to do. These have not been done!! After 7 months at home I still feel "in limbo". Hopefully one day soon I will come to realise that my life is now at home and not going out to paid employment every day, but it's a hard habit to break!! We're never happy are we!!

    1. I suspect my hormones may be playing a part - I have no idea what they're up to!! At the very beginning I got loads done and was very productive. After Christmas I started to have a lull which is now into its fifth month!!! Very frustrating, but as Dawn says it will pass. Maybe you should break you lists down and just try to do one job a day? That way you might feel a sense of achievement. I'm guilty of making overwhelmingly long lists!! Take a little look at Rhonda's blog "Down to Earth" . It helped me in the early stages especially when I started from the beginning of her journey. X

  3. I think we all feel like that now and again, my excuse is that I just have sooooo much to do, that my brain switches off 'cos I don't know where to start.
I just tell myself to do something - anything - and it usually works and snaps me back into reality.
Small steps .... better than no steps.

    1. You see I feel guilty at faffing around not achieving much because I know that if I really want to embrace the life I want, I'll need to be working hard EVERY day! I will revisit my list and choose something to achieve next week.

  4. Hope you get your mojo back soon. I had a few weeks like that when I just couldn't settle to anything....it's passed now thank goodness. As the others have said, most of us go through times like that.

    1. That's a comfort that others feel the same way from time to time!

  5. If you had that same flu/cold virus my husband and neighbours had, it takes weeks to get your energy back. Just wondering if it's that. My husband was exhausted for 5 weeks after it and still isn't quite back to normal, falling asleep at every opportunity. Relax, enjoy your free time. I always say that as long as there's food in the house and clean clothes for everyone, nothing else really matters. By the way, I'm sure you mentioned toilet rolls being used at a tremendous rate in your household (same in mine!). Mr T has 18 Velvet Loo Rolls on offer for £6 at the moment. Going in to stock up this weekend x

    1. Thanks for the tip on toilet rolls - I'll take a look this weekend. Actually, I do feel exceedingly tired - perhaps I haven't quite shaken the virus. I'm still coughing too, which is irritating (and a nightmare for my bladder!!). I guess I should feel pleased that we always have clothes to wear and food to eat! X

  6. Hope you feel more with it soon. It took me ages to get used to Col being at home, I think all lifestyle changes take a while to settle into.

    1. I was expecting the worst bit to be in Jan/Feb because I hate those months anyway, but the weather was good so they sailed past. I suspect, it's hitting me now instead!

  7. Hope your 'mojo' returns soon, it's hard to buck yourself up when you feel down. I found youtube a huge help when I taught myself to crochet as I was getting in an awful tangle & that can really put you off! x

  8. I hope your mojo returns soon. If you find mine while you're looking please send it this way. I haven't managed to accomplish much at all this week. X

  9. It is normal and will pass. Try setting an alarm for 1/2 an hour, do something off your list until it rings. Repeat as often as you want, or not.
