Bits and bobs

I've been spending some 'unplugged' time this weekend. I find myself trawling through the Internet too often if I'm on my iPad, so I've not even brought it downstairs until much later in the day. Consequently I've been outside a lot more and felt more peaceful. I think I will try to limit the time I have phone/iPad/TV more and more - it's too easy to stupify in front of screens and before I know it, I've wasted an hour or more achieving nothing!

You'll be pleased to here that Jet is an absolute treasure :) he's been so well behaved and calm and he seems to be very happy here. Our only concern is that he is limping a bit. I think a) he has a pre existing injury to his right shoulder (apparently he fell off the settee as a puppy), b) he is overweight and c) he is unfit and not used to the amount of exercise he is now getting! He had some fantastic walks along the canal at the weekend and was running all over the place like a puppy, but then  became very stiff later in the day. I've given him a very gentle, shorter walk this morning and will do the same again this afternoon just to give him a rest day and we will start him in some anti-inflammatories too to ease the stiffness. He doesn't seem to be in pain which is a good thing. Getting anything done around the house isn't easy as he is constantly by my side, but I have managed to get him to stay downstairs so the cats can have the freedom and peace of upstairs. They are distinctly unimpressed with his arrival!!

His previous owner sent us this photo of him as a puppy x

I harvested the last of the loganberries (5 kilo in all from 3 plants!) and broad beans at the weekend and picked the first pattypan squash - they are very cute! I'm going to google some recipe ideas as I haven't cooked them before. Do any of you use them?

Sorry - blurry photo!
I made a start on a new craft project this weekend too, which I'm very excited about. I will of course write a post about it when I've finished, but here is a teaser.....

My ever present helper!
This is an idea which has been in my head since I went to Barcelona for my 40th eight years ago!! I'm hoping it will finally reach fruitition now!!

Mr D starts his summer holidays tomorrow. He is much in need of a break, so we are hoping to be out on lots of dog walks if the weather stays as good as it has been!

    6. Good! I'm very glad to hear that. A number of us had been quite worried about you x

  2. Jet is absolutely gorgeous! I am very much a "dog" person but we have a cat who is frightened of everything. We fostered a lab from East Midlands Labrador Rescue based in Nottingham last year while she was awaiting her adoption and our poor cat de-camped to the garage for 3 weeks in fright. Your cats should eventually be fine though if they are already quite confident, which it sounds like they are. I really hope his shoulder gets better. He is lovely! Will you be doing a mosaic by chance?

    1. We were always dog people, but then got cats after our dog died and I was working full time. I love the cats, but there's nothing quite like a cuddle with a dog!! I get cuddles all day with Jet, then, when I go to bed, I get cuddles with the cats :) yes, you've guessed it - a mosaic table top à la Gaudi!

  5. Jet is beautiful. I hope his injury is nothing serious. Oh how I wish I had a dog ;0( . Love the colour of the tiles.

    1. I suspect it will be an ongoing arthritic type injury, but as both Mr D and I suffer from those, we know how to deal with them! I'm so looking forward to starting my design (still in my head at the moment!)

  6. Jet is a lovely looking dog, he must be very happy with you. I use patty pan squash the same way as courgettes, the small ones I used to thread onto skewers for mixed veg kebabs. x

    1. How lovely to be his happiness, but not so lovely when I keep treading on him or falling a over t because he sneaks up behind me!!
I forgive him every time though! :)

    2. thehamish is like that. right under my feet. I have stepped on him, tripped over him chipped three teeth when I hit the wall and sliding glass door, kicked him and stepped on his tail. He still walks next to me and licks my ankle while walking. As he has gotten older (12) he has gotten better not right under my feet but follows me everywhere.
But I love him. He is one messed up little guy. But still very sweet and cute.

  8. Talking about Barcelona and looking in those boxes I'd say it's something to do with mosaic? Jet looks so sweet. You are probably right about the long walks and not being used to it being the reason for stiffness. He looks so happy though, bet he has enjoyed every minute. Pam in Norway

  9. Jet is gorgeous.

Have you tried him on Yumove tablets, we have Suky on them now as she has a 'slipping' kneecap and was constantly getting a limp after long walks. She's been so much better since she's been on them for the last month or so. They taste nice too which is a bonus if you have to give dogs tablets on a regular basis.

Here is a link to the website, although they do sell them at the vets for a similar price.

    1. Thanks - I'll look into that. We have some anti inflammatory to try him on this week and when that runs out I'll look at the Yumove tablets :)
